In a private enclave located along Florida Bay
an idyllic coastal Florida Keys Winter retreat
was reimagined and redesigned.
The original house, built in the 1950’s sits at
ground level which is unusual in the keys today.
The clients, keen environmentalists wanted a
natural low maintenance native garden with
private outdoor living rooms.
There were no plantings to remove, just a few
tall crooked Coconut Palms which were added to.
Custom colored louvered fences provide privacy
and a hidden front entrance.
Rock salt patterned concrete walkways
and patios were poured in place and given an
aged look with a malachite patina.
Black river rocks complete the look.
A bold striped awning structure creates an
outdoor dining room with an amazing bay view.
Among a “sea” of Dwarf Fakahatchee Grasses
a curved matching concrete ramp leads to the
private marina for ease of loading boat supplies.
The clients, admirers of Debra’s abstract paintings,
purchased 5 large scaled paintings which grace
the walls of the almost all white interior.
